As a responsible corporate citizen, CCT encourages a spirit of giving back to the community. We are active in promoting the health and safety of our staff and tenants, and in creating and preserving greener environments for a sustainable future.
In 2009, CCT joined over 100 CapitaLand properties across Singapore, Australia, China, Malaysia and Vietnam to participate in Earth Hour for the second consecutive year. Supporting this global campaign to fight global warming, the lighted façades of our properties including Capital Tower, Six Battery Road and One George Street were turned off for one hour at 8.30 pm on 28 March 2009.
In the lead up to Earth Hour, we provided space at Market Street Car Park, Capital Tower and One George Street to World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) for a number of roadshows aimed at encouraging participation and energy conservation among Singaporeans. Wilkie Edge, our mixed-use development at Wilkie Road, supported by sponsoring airtime for WWF's promotional videos on its façade's media wall, while Six Battery Road and Starhub Centre helped to generate awareness through videos screened on their elevator LCD displays at lunch time.
In October 2009, a 'Think Green, Act Green' Day organised by CB Richard Ellis (S) Pte Ltd, a tenant at Six Battery Road, facilitated the sharing of environmental initiatives that won the property its Green Mark Gold certification. We also took the opportunity to interact and engage their staff on important green habits such as recycling and active waste management, explaining how they can support CCT through environmental consciousness.
In December 2009, J.P. Morgan Chase Bank, N. A., a tenant at Capital Tower, inspired a lively exchange of ideas at their 'Green Minds Think Alike' session. We took the opportunity to brief attendees on our green programmes at the property and appeal for mutual support and cooperation in furthering our environmental cause.
As part of our CSR ethos, we will continue to implement green programmes at all existing and future properties, and initiate creative measures that underscore environmental sustainability.
In 2009, tenants at Six Battery Road were part of CapitaLand's Providing Educational Exposure for Kids or "PEEK" project through a donation drive for food and necessities in support of the Moral Family Service Centre. We were heartened by the overwhelming response. The lobby at Six Battery Road was also used as a venue for event registration in conjunction with the Dover Park Hospice SUNday Walk 2009. The walk aimed to raise funds for palliative medical care to terminally ill patients.
To provide a platform for aspiring young artists, Wilkie Edge supported the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Travelogue Exhibition by showcasing the works of its graduating students. We also supported Open House 2009, a quirky exhibition that transformed eight neighbouring shophouses into 'art galleries', by offering Wilkie Edge as a venue for the pricier exhibits.
In recognition of our corporate and social responsibility standards, CCT was included in the FTSE4Good Index Series with effect from 18 September 2009. FTSE4Good is a series of benchmark and tradable indices for responsible investors derived from the globally recognised FTSE Global Equity Index Series.
We also took strides towards a greener future through environmentally friendly buildings. In 2009, Six Battery Road clinched the BCA Green Mark Gold award for the first time, while Capital Tower and One George Street maintained their BCA Green Mark Gold status with the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore (BCA).
Seven properties achieved the Fire Safety Excellence Award presented by the National Fire Prevention Council and Singapore Civil Defence Force - Capital Tower, Six Battery Road, Raffles City Singapore, Starhub Centre, Golden Shoe Car Park and Wilkie Edge; while Six Battery Road and Raffles City Singapore were presented the National Safety and Security Award (Cluster Category) by the Singapore Civil Defence Force and Singapore Police Force.
Additionally, Raffles City Singapore did us proud by bagging the globally recognised ICSC Asia Shopping Centre Award (Silver) (Renovation/Expansion of an Existing Project Category) by the International Council of Shopping Centres, Inc. and the Water Efficiency Award presented by the Public Utilities Board Singapore.
